Luminosity charged by adventure
Unlike the Luminox Light Technology (LLT), Super-LumiNova® needs to be charged by light to give an afterglow, thus illuminating the face of a watch in the dark. These pigments operate like a light battery. After sufficient activation by sunlight or artificial light, they glow in the dark for many hours. Larger markings offer full legibility for the whole night. This activation and subsequent light emission process can be repeated again and again, and the material does not suffer any practical aging.
Strontium aluminate–based pigments have to be protected against contact with water or moisture, since this degrades the light emitting quality.
While other watch brands use a phosphorescent paint on the markers that require an external light source to produce a "luminous effect", Luminox does not.
Super-LumiNova® vs. Luminox Light Technology (LLT)
Super-LumiNova® must be exposed to a light source (natural or artificial) to charge and then it will hold the luminosity for a limited time dependent on the quality of the material. The duration of the visibility is approximately between 3.5 and 8 hours.
Unlike Super-LumiNova®, LLT’s (activated luminosity) need no external light source to “charge” the paint on the dial or hands in order to glow. They neither require a push of a button to light the dial as do watches with electro luminescence, and therefore Luminox watches do not consume any battery power. Luminox Light Technology offers self-powered illumination for up to 25 years.
