Before purchasing a new watch I looked extensively before deciding. I wanted an automatic movement, but wanted something functional and not a piece of jewelry. I considered the Omega mariner but couldn't bring myself to pay the cost even though the movement is highly rated. I also needed something I could see for the duration of a winter night. I didn't initially consider Luminox since I didn't need another tactical watch with quartz movement. Once you start looking online of course you are inundated with unsolicited ads, but in this case it proved helpful. Once I saw the Midnight Mariner I realized it met my specifications of a reasonably priced watch you can wear in most conditions, sustained luminescent, and a Swiss automatic movement that is reasonably accurate. It looks great and at 42 mm fits nicely on the wrist. Time will tell about durability, but a 2 year warranty helps ease concern with a mechanical choice. The only critique I have at this point is the bezel ring. It feels like metal coated plastic and may be subject to cracking under harsher usage. Still, the luminescent marker at the 12 indicator sustains visibility in darkness and the bezel ring sets firmly into place without drift. This watch is both functional and attractive.
