Luminox micro-gas tubes

Every Luminox watch contains tiny, self-powered micro gas light tubes (borosilicate glass capsules), which are always lit. The capsules are located on the hands, hour markers, and, when necessary, on the bezels. These light tubes are safe for humans as well as the environment and are individually installed by hand into every watch.

What makes this technology so unique?

Luminox Light Technology stands out for its ability to glow without an external light source. This unique quality separates Luminox Light Technology from Super-LumiNova®, a phosphorescent paint, and the most common alternative luminosity system. Whereas Luminox Light Technology provides constant visibility for up to 25 years, timepieces utilizing Super-LumiNova® must be exposed to an external light source (natural or artificial) to produce a "luminous effect." In addition, the duration of visibility with Super-LumiNova® is approximately 3.5-8 hours compared to Luminox Light technology which guarantees visibility for up to 25 years.

Luminox Light Technology (LLT) vs. Super-LumiNova®

LLTs are self powered and do not need an external light source to “charge” in order to glow. Whereas Super-LumiNova® provides luminosity for 3.5-8 hours before requiring an external light source, Luminox Light Technology (LLT) offers self-powered illumination for up to 25 years. Luminox Light Technology further separates itself from other watches utilizing electro luminescence by bypassing the need for a button which consumes battery power.

Luminox Light Technology ensures constant visibility, regardless of light condition, for up to 25 years. For the first ten years, we guarantee that the intensity of the glow remains constant. From then on, the brightness emitted from the LLTs is subject to decrease due to the energy loss of the gas.

As a result of its unique properties, Luminox Light Technology is unaffected by water, oil and most corrosive materials.

The tubes undergo a labor-intensive manufacturing process, with quality control being a dominant part of the production. They are inspected for dimensions, brightness, temperature, thermal shock, and Tritium leakage. Random sample testing is continually performed for discoloration, brightness decay, reduced pressure, and vibration effects.
