Luminox joins FORCE BLUE for Key West Mission
This summer, Luminox joined our friends at FORCE BLUE for their Tour of Duty Key West mission in collaboration with NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration).
This particular deployment, which also involved scientists from InWater Research Group, focused on surveying sea turtle populations insde the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary to assess their overall health.

Over five days, FORCE BLUE took to the seas and conducted their survey with remarkable efficiency. During the dive, team members were tasked with tracking down Sea Turtles and bringing them back to the boat for testing.
From there, the sea turtles were measured and surveyed for scientific research; healthy turtles were returned to sea while sick turtles were brought to a local animal hospital for treatment. In total, FORCE BLUE was able to capture, measure, and tag a total of 35 turtles. 22 Loggerheads and 13 Green turtles.
The recorded data will prove valuable to better understand the sea turtle population in the Key West area and help protect these precious animals.

FORCE BLUE and its mission of continuing service provide a unique opportunity for meaningful engagement. By repurposing the skills learned during their service, FORCE BLUE team members can carry out underwater missions with the same level of purpose and thoroughness that they demonstrated while on the frontlines.
The FORCE BLUE’s mission didn’t end there. On August 10, Force Blue hosted a ‘Community Day’ at the Eco Community Center in Key West, drawing in a crowd of all ages. This event was a cornerstone of FORCE BLUE’s community outreach program, dedicated to fostering a deeper understanding of marine ecosystems. Attendees participated in a series of educational workshops highlighting the importance of coral health and marine preservation. The initiative educated and empowered individuals to become proactive stewards of their local marine environment.
This educational component of FORCE BLUE’s latest mission is particularly essential to an island like Key West. Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary is home to more than 6,000 animal species making it a desirable destination for tourists across the globe. However, with tourism comes an increased strain on local ecosystems. In response, organizations like FORCE BLUE and NOAA counteract the damage by planting corral, removing marine debris and through the process of signalization.
Luminox is proud to support FORCE BLUE in its efforts to preserve our nation’s marine resources and provide veterans with a meaningful post-service cause.
